Is it illegal to change the color of a motorcycle's turn signal?

Turn signals are a very important component on motorbikes as well as cars. The main function of turn signals, also known as turn signals, is to signal to other vehicles that we are about to turn.

In addition, turn signals are also used in cases of overtaking, changing lanes, warning of danger, etc. Using turn signals properly not only helps ensure the safety of the driver, but also limits collisions with other road users. Not using turn signals properly is very bad and should be a habit for this action.

The traditional and almost default turn signal color on motorbikes and cars is yellow, some manufacturers use red for turn signals on some of their models. However, there is a trend of young people changing the color of turn signals, so is this behavior allowed?

Clause 13, Article 8 of the 2008 Road Traffic Law stipulates that the following acts are strictly prohibited:

- Installing and using horns and lights not in accordance with the manufacturer's design for each type of motor vehicle;

- Using audio equipment that disrupts traffic safety and public order.

Therefore, the installation and use of lights (including changing the color of turn signals against regulations) not in accordance with the manufacturer's design for each type of motor vehicle is a violation of the law and will be punished according to Point c, Clause 4, Article 30 of Decree 100/2019/ND-CP with a fine of VND 800,000 to VND 2,000,000 for individuals. From VND 1,600,000 to VND 4,000,000 for organizations that are owners of motorbikes, motorbikes and vehicles similar to motorbikes.

In fact, most manufacturers design yellow turn signals because yellow light wavelengths are more sensitive to the human eye than other colors. Using yellow turn signals with flashing effects will increase the eye's attention.

Currently, according to the regulations of the Ministry of Transport , the turn signal must have amber or red light. Therefore, in addition to yellow, the car owner still has another color, which is to change to red. It should be emphasized that if the car owner arbitrarily changes to another color except the two colors above, the car owner will still be fined from 800,000 VND to 2,000,000 VND for individuals, and from 1,600,000 million VND to 4,000,000 VND for organizations.
