Workers' Month: Workers on Hai Van Pass burst into joy when receiving attention

On May 23, the delegation of the Vietnam Railway Trade Union and the Trade Union of Quang Nam - Da Nang Railway Joint Stock Company visited, encouraged and gave gifts to workers and laborers currently working at stations and routes on Hai Van Pass on the occasion of Workers' Month and Occupational Safety and Hygiene 2024.

Surprise gift

Departing by train at Kim Lien Station (Da Nang), the delegation visited workers and laborers working at stations in the Hai Van Pass area such as: Kim Lien Station, Hai Van Nam Youth Station, Hai Van Bac Station, Hai Van Station, Lang Co Signal Information Palace...

In particular, the delegation stopped at places where workers were working along the route to encourage and give gifts.

Mr. Nguyen The Hiep, 32 years old, from Thua Thien Hue, currently working on replacing railway tracks at Hai Van Pass, shared his joy when he unexpectedly received leaders coming to visit and give gifts.

"The most surprising gift was when leaders came to visit while working on the pass. Even happier was when leaders listened to the difficulties, but the happiest thing was still receiving lucky money on Workers' Month" - Mr. Hiep excitedly said.

Mr. Hiep has 4 years of experience in replacing train tracks. Although the job is hard, the salary of 9 million/month has helped his family have a stable life. He said that he used to drive a taxi but his income was unstable and not enough to support his family.

Mr. Hiep added that replacing train tracks is a job that requires absolute precision; just a little carelessness can cause an accident. Therefore, in addition to mastering his expertise, the Union regularly sends him to training courses on safety and occupational hygiene. "When working on railways, safety must be the top priority," Mr. Hiep affirmed.

On the occasion of Workers' Month, Hai Van Bac Station received a set of tables, chairs, beds and a cabinet from the Trade Union at all levels to welcome young colleagues.

Mr. Tran Trung Thanh - on duty at Hai Van Bac train station (Thua Thien Hue) joked with his new colleague: "Now we have a new desk, new bed, new wardrobe, so don't come to my room to sleep anymore."

Mr. Tran Trung Thanh said that he has been attached to Hai Van Bac Station since he was a young man of 20 years old, until now it has been 21 years. At that time, there was no radio, at night they only lit kerosene lamps. During the day, the brothers divided up to go find firewood to cook, and used stream water for water, there was no filtration system like today.

"Now I'm happy, I'm cared for by leaders at all levels and by the Trade Union at all levels, everything is available, sometimes I'm just sad because there are no people around" - Mr. Thanh said.

Focus on solving workers' problems and difficulties

At the visited locations, comrade Mai Thanh Phuong - Chairman of Vietnam Railway Trade Union praised the spirit of overcoming difficulties to complete assigned tasks of railway officers and employees working in the Hai Van Pass area.

At the same time, leaders of the Vietnam Railway Trade Union visited, understood the aspirations and directly resolved the problems and difficulties of workers.

In the Hai Van Pass area, at stations without filtered water, comrade Mai Thanh Phuong directed to connect water filter pipes from large stations to small stations or install water filter systems so that workers can soon have access to clean water for daily activities.

At the same time, the Chairman of the Vietnam Railway Trade Union directed the Head of Hai Van Bac Station to prepare a proposal for the Trade Union to support the difficult case of Mr. Dinh Xuan Hoa, so that Mr. Hoa's child can receive support from the Loving Leaves program until he is 18 years old.

“If there are any difficulties or shortages, please feel free to propose them. I will resolve any issues within my ability. For station areas, road supply and demand on mountain passes, and areas with difficult travel conditions, the industry leaders will give top priority,” affirmed comrade Mai Thanh Phuong.

Regarding ensuring safety and hygiene for workers, comrade Nguyen Van Tung - Chairman of the Trade Union of Quang Nam - Da Nang Railway Joint Stock Company said that with the theme of Workers' Month 2024 "Strengthening safety and hygiene at work and in the supply chain", the Trade Union of Quang Nam - Da Nang Railway Joint Stock Company will continue to focus on occupational safety, train safety; safety in bridge and road maintenance and repair, road patrolling, level crossing guards; safety in passenger and cargo transportation.

“In addition to providing full and quality protective equipment for workers participating in construction projects, we also organized training sessions on occupational safety and health such as fire prevention and fighting, use of fire extinguishers, health check-ups, and dissemination of regulations and measures to ensure occupational safety and health for all workers in the Company. In the railway industry, safety issues cannot be neglected even for a minute,” said comrade Nguyen Van Tung.

During the visit on the occasion of Workers' Month and Occupational Safety and Health, the Vietnam Railway Trade Union donated nearly 50 million VND including cash and equipment.

In addition, the Trade Union of Quang Nam - Da Nang Railway Joint Stock Company and Da Nang Railway Signal Information Joint Stock Company also donated equipment such as water purifiers, fans, rice cookers, and freezers to workers with a total cost of more than 38 million VND.
