On the afternoon of December 27, Mr. Phan Van Mai, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, had a working session with the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Management Board and Urban Railway Company No. 1.
At the meeting, Mr. Le Minh Triet, Director of Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Company Limited, said that in the 5 days from the official operation date of December 22 to December 26, the metro operated 997 trains, carrying 467,000 passengers.
Mr. Phan Van Mai, Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, worked with Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Management Board on the afternoon of December 27.
Specifically, on December 22, the company served about 140 trips, but due to the large number of passengers, the company served up to 177 trips, with more than 150,000 people.
In the following days, the number of passengers continued to increase, on December 23rd it reached 38,754 passengers; on December 24th it increased to 90,384 passengers (20 more trips than expected due to Christmas); on December 25th there were 115,962 passengers and by December 26th, the metro line served 72,575 passengers.
Mr. Phan Cong Bang, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Management Board, said that the current operation process is facing some difficulties, such as not being able to increase trips at peak times because adjusting the number of trains requires the approval of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport.
Mr. Bang said that cashless payments will be officially implemented from January 22, 2025.
At the meeting, Mr. Phan Cong Bang proposed to arrange basic amenities for train passengers such as automatic water vending machines, this is a great need, suggested by customers.
The Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee presented souvenirs to the two units and awarded individuals with outstanding achievements.
Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Phan Van Mai, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, said that the event of metro line No. 1 Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien officially coming into operation and commercial operation is an important milestone, marking a turning point in the development of Ho Chi Minh City's transportation.
The Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee expects that by 2035, Ho Chi Minh City will develop an additional 355km of urban railway.
The Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee requested that units coordinate closely to ensure the metro system operates safely, on time and effectively, learning from countries with developed metro systems such as Japan.
Regarding the progress of implementing the next metro lines, Mr. Mai requested that units coordinate to resolve contractors' recommendations and report existing problems during operation.
On this occasion, Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Phan Van Mai presented souvenirs to the two units and awarded individuals with outstanding achievements.
