On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the success of the August Revolution (August 19, 1945 - August 19, 2025), National Day September 2 and the 80th anniversary of the Traditional Day of the Vietnam People's Public Security (August 19, 1945 - August 19, 2025), the 20th anniversary of the National Day for National Security Protection (August 19, 2005 - August 19, 2025), on August 19, in Hanoi , the Hanoi Theater Association organized a workshop "Theatre with the image of the People's Public Security soldier".

In his opening speech, People's Artist Bui Thanh Tram, former Chairman of the Hanoi Theater Association, emphasized that the workshop was organized to spread a humane message, promote the beauty of the People's Public Security (PPP) soldier; create motivation and inspiration for stage artists to have more inspiration to compose many quality scripts about the image of the PPP soldier.
According to People's Artist Bui Thanh Tram, in the field of theater, the theme of the People's Public Security Forces is reflected in a realistic, vivid and profound way. Among them, there are many works praising the contributions of the People's Public Security Forces in the cause of national liberation through the periods of resistance against the French, resistance against the Americans, building and defending the Fatherland during the period of national renovation. Many plays praise the sacrifices and exemplary examples of the People's Public Security Forces on the front of fighting against crime, protecting national security, ensuring social order and safety; fighting against degradation in political ideology, moral qualities, lifestyle, "self-evolution", "self-transformation" within the organization.
In particular, in the context of the country entering a new era, the stage about the image of the police officer has also captured the breath of life, reflecting the strong changes of the People's Public Security force.

Director, Meritorious Artist Thanh Loan commented that in reality, the activities of the People's Public Security Forces on the front lines have many touching and dramatic stories, especially the examples of selfless sacrifices by police officers to protect the people. Therefore, this topic always attracts audiences, and the stage is always bustling. The CAND Drama Theater has two works on this topic performed every year. The 5th National Theater Festival on the image of the People's Public Security Officer in 2025 recently had 25 new plays of all types of theater, by 21 art units nationwide participating.
The plays were enjoyed by a large audience, many of which were sold out. After enjoying the works, the audience felt moved and appreciated, and spread the word widely on social media platforms, helping people better understand the work and silent sacrifices of this force, while also improving legal knowledge, raising vigilance, and preventing crime...
Expanding the creative dimension
The topic of the People's Public Security Forces is inherently political and can easily become dry if approached in a one-way propaganda style. Besides successful works on this topic, many delegates frankly pointed out the limitations in exploiting the image of the People's Public Security Forces on stage. Playwright Le Quy Hien expressed regret that there are still works that only show the story, not the people... The script and play only illustrate a case provided by the police agency, and even only replace real characters and events with slightly fictional character names.
Director Hoang Thanh Du believes that many current stage works “only stop at the surface propaganda lens”… promoting professionalism, promoting the spirit of not compromising with bad things, but are not convincing, not enough to gain the trust of the audience. That is also the reason why many stage works only go to festivals but do not enter real life. Author Le Dung suggests that it is necessary to extend the “life cycle” of works after festivals, actively organize performances to serve the public, especially at the grassroots level; at the same time, train young authors and directors, create conditions for them to penetrate reality to understand more deeply the life of soldiers.
Some artists, authors, and researchers have suggested new directions to more vividly and deeply portray the image of soldiers on stage. Accordingly, in order for plays about police officers to truly reach the audience, today's stage needs to open up real-life stories, exploiting the psychological depth, professional qualities, and inner struggles of soldiers in peacetime. The works must both reflect reality, glorify, and have critical elements to contribute to building a clean and strong police force.
In the coming time, in the world and regional situation, there are many fluctuations, complexities and unpredictability; domestically, although our country's reputation and fortune have never had such a foundation as today, the situation of crime, security and order is still complicated, with potential points of causing instability. Life in general, the security and order situation in particular, especially the newly emerging non-traditional security and crime issues, pose many problems that need the art of theater and authors and artists to explain and forecast.
The image of the People's Public Security soldier and the fight against hostile forces and criminals is still a "hot" topic, waiting for the talent, labor, responsibility and dedication of those working in the theater, to create attractive works that enter life.
