Tran Thi Ngoc Nuong created a "luxurious" appearance, wearing a lot of gold to attract the attention of many people. With this appearance and her "smooth talk", she deceived more than 130 people who wanted to work in Korea and appropriated nearly 3 billion VND.
Can Tho City Police Investigation Agency recently prosecuted and temporarily detained Tran Thi Ngoc Nuong (24 years old, from Vinh Loc hamlet, Vinh Binh commune, Vinh Thanh district) to investigate the act of " Fraudulent appropriation of property ".
Initially, the police have clarified the fraud scheme of this subject.
According to the reporter’s investigation, before being arrested, Nuong often appeared with a luxurious appearance, wearing a lot of gold, attracting everyone’s attention. Nuong did this to polish her name to facilitate her “matchmaking” efforts.
On Facebook and Zalo, Nuong often posts foreign marriage brokerage content such as: "Tomorrow, watch live the 43-year-old Korean groom, in O Mon - Can Tho. Single or divorced bride... inbox Nuong".
To facilitate the scam, Nuong rented a house near Trai Mai bridge (Thoi Thanh 1 area, Thoi Thuan ward, Thot Not district) and opened a business signboard under the name "Nuong Nuong", transporting goods to Korea, Taiwan (China), Malaysia, Singapore, USA, Australia, Japan...
Then, she used the Facebook account “Nuong Nuong Tran Ngoc” and Zalo account “Nuong Nuong Mai Moi” to post information about exporting seasonal labor.
Nuong advertises that anyone interested can come directly to sign a seasonal labor contract in Korea with a package price of 42-48 million VND, with a deposit of 50%.
Mr. Mai Phu Tuong (residing in Tan Loi 2 area, Tan Hung ward, Thot Not district) said that through a friend's introduction, he read Nuong's article posted on social media. This article was about recruiting seasonal workers to work in Korea with attractive salaries.
Specifically, Nuong advertised to recruit workers aged 25-50 to work in the fields, the garden owner guaranteed the entire set of documents for 48 million VND/person, and paid a 50% deposit in advance. Nuong also "guaranteed" 85% of the application, the rest depends on the consulate reviewing the application, the sponsor, health status...
"According to the contract, we go there to do farming such as picking pears, apples, garlic, chili... We work 8 hours a day, from Monday to Saturday. The garden owner provides 2 meals. The daily salary is from 100-120 thousand won, equivalent to 1.8 million VND.
Thinking it was real, my wife and I registered with Nuong, but ended up being scammed out of more than 40 million VND" - Mr. Tuong was indignant.
Mr. Tuong and his wife registered and paid a deposit for Nuong at the beginning of this year, on January 26. But later, Nuong announced that both of their applications were unsuccessful and they were not granted visas.
"For many months, I asked for my deposit back, but Nuong said she would pay 20 million VND first, and she would work out the rest and pay it back gradually. But on September 19, Nuong declared bankruptcy and had no money to pay anymore..." - Mr. Tuong said.
Most of Nuong's victims are freelancers and low-income workers. They have to borrow money from relatives to have enough money to register to "go to Korea".
Mr. Nguyen Ha Lam (41 years old, living in Tan Hung ward, Thot Not district) indignantly said that he and his two younger siblings registered to work seasonally in Korea with the hope of having a better life. But unexpectedly, all three were scammed by Nuong, and it is not known when they will get their deposit back.
"I heard from the person who introduced me that Nuong is reputable because she has helped many women marry Korean men. In addition, she also installed billboards advertising marriage consulting services, international shipping... Therefore, I trusted her and borrowed from many places to get 24 million VND to pay a deposit to reserve a place. Who would have thought that when I went abroad, I would not see her anywhere, only paying interest to her every month..." - Mr. Lam confided.
According to the investigation agency, from the beginning of 2023 to September 2024, Nuong committed fraud against 132 victims with a total amount of nearly 3 billion VND. All contracts were prepared by Nuong herself and signed with each person without notarization or certification.
To serve the investigation to expand the case, Can Tho City Police informed that anyone who is a victim in the case of Tran Thi Ngoc Nuong should immediately contact the police investigation agency, address at 71 Tran Phu, Cai Khe Ward, Ninh Kieu District. Those who have necessary information should contact Mr. Vo Hung Linh - the investigator in charge, phone number 0942225512 - for guidance and resolution.
