The whole province currently has about 2,407 bird nest houses, most of which are concentrated in communes in the Dong Thap Muoi area.
According to information from the Department of Agriculture (Department of Agriculture and Environment), the growth rate of bird's nest houses recently has increased but is not high compared to the period 2020-2023, showing signs of saturation.
The main reason is the decrease in bird's nest product prices, slow consumption market, while the number of bird's nest houses increases rapidly. The bird population has not had time to grow and divide into flocks, making it difficult to attract, leading to fierce competition between bird's nest houses in the same area.
In addition, the food source for swiftlets is not endless; if there are too many swiftlets in the same population, it will lead to a lack of food and the flock will grow slowly. Therefore, building a large number of swiftlet houses will no longer bring about the expected economic efficiency.
Not only facing challenges from the market, the management of bird's nest houses in the area also has many problems. According to the provisions in Appendix V issued with Decree 46/2022/ND-CP, dated July 13, 2022, bird's nest houses are not specified with specific livestock units, leading to difficulties in establishing environmental records according to Decree 08/2022/ND-CP, dated January 10, 2022.
Meanwhile, to be granted a construction permit, birdhouses must be on other types of agricultural land; but in reality, most of them are built on residential land, land for perennial crops, and rice fields. Procedures for changing land use purposes and dividing plots still have many shortcomings, causing difficulties in planning farming areas and introducing investment projects.
In recent times, the management of construction order for bird nest farming projects in some places has been limited. Some organizations and individuals have built bird nest houses without permission, without permission or not in accordance with approved planning. In particular, to date, relevant ministries and branches have not issued a set of procedures guiding the granting of construction permits, land, and environment for bird nest farming projects. This makes it difficult for localities to guide, manage, and handle violations.
Faced with this reality, the development of bird's nest farming in Tay Ninh needs to be adjusted towards sustainability, avoiding widespread construction, focusing on scientific planning and issuing synchronous management mechanisms, both meeting the needs of economic development and ensuring the harmony of people's interests and protecting the ecological environment./.
