Many scholars attend the conference to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-Russia relations

Scholars presented research results on important historical events affecting the two countries, as well as discussed the current dynamics of Russia-Vietnam relations and prospects for future relations.

One of the kick-off events on September 3 - the opening day of the 9th Eastern Economic Forum (EEF 2024) at the Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) on Russkyi Island in Vladivostok - was the plenary session of the Vietnam-Russia International Scientific and Practical Conference to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. The event lasted almost the entire day of September 3, attracting many Vietnamese scholars as well as Vietnam scholars from prestigious universities and research institutes in the Russian Federation. At the beginning of the conference, delegates listened to a video greeting from President of the Historical Society of the Russian Federation Sergey Naryshkin and Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Konstantin Mogilevsky. In his opening remarks, moderator Yury Kulchin, President of the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, affirmed that Vietnam has always held an important position and that the Russian Federation wants to develop sustainable relations with Vietnam. The conference focused on analyzing historical, political and security aspects. Scholars presented research results on important historical events affecting the two countries, as well as discussed the current dynamics of Russia-Vietnam relations and prospects for future relations. Most of the speeches highlighted the close relationship between the Russian Federation and Vietnam, originating from the former Soviet Union, and expressed the desire to strengthen and promote this friendly relationship. In an interview with a reporter from the Vietnam News Agency, Mr. Dmitry Mosyakov - Professor, Doctor of Historical Sciences; Director of the Center for Southeast Asia, Australia and Oceania at the Institute of Oriental Studies, Russian Academy of Sciences, predicted that the relationship between the two countries has been raised to a new level after President Vladimir Putin's visit to Vietnam and the election of Comrade To Lam as General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, based on the foundation of close relations and trust between the two countries. According to Mr. Mosyakov, the two countries have common views on many issues and international relations, and have many interesting projects such as the Novatek company's project on liquefied gas, the construction of a nuclear training center, or other projects of private enterprises...

Mr. Tran Tuan Anh, Vice President of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, said that the Vietnam-Russian Federation relationship is a very strong one. After 75 years of cooperation, this is a truly friendly and comradely relationship. This forum is a good opportunity for scientists from both countries to evaluate the cooperation in the recent period and propose new ideas for future cooperation. At the conference, Mr. Vitaly Naumkin - Scientific Director of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, introduced the collection "The Soviet Union and Vietnam in the Second Indochina War 1959-1975" compiled by the Russian Federal Archives.

On the sidelines of EEF 2024, an exchange took place between Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Chien Thang, Director of the Institute of European Studies, Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, with Vice Rector for International Relations Evgeny Vlasov and officials of the Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) on ideas and directions for bilateral cooperation. On this occasion, the two sides signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on cooperation.
