Banks increase recruitment
According to the separate financial report for the third quarter of 2023, as of September 30, 27 listed joint stock commercial banks had a total of 232,158 employees. This number increased by 2,622 people compared to December 31, 2022.
In the 10 banks with the largest number of employees in the system (except Agribank), the number of employees is over 10,000 people.
Leading the Top 10 is BIDV with 26,108 people, an increase of 377 people compared to the end of 2022. Vietcombank ranked second with 22,771 people, an increase of 906 people.
The following banks, in turn, lead in the number of employees: VietinBank (22,386 people, down 493 people); Sacombank (17,384 people, up 6 people); VPBank (13,065 people, up 48 people); ACB (12,984 people, up 380 people); VIB (11,444 people, up 1,504 people); Techcombank (10,938 people, down 607 people); LPBank (10,333 people, down 1,870 people) and MB (10,320 people, up 334 people compared to the end of last year).
VIB and Vietcombank have the largest increase in the number of employees, 1,504 and 906 people respectively.
On the contrary, LPBank, Techcombank and VietinBank recorded a decrease in the number of employees. Of which, LPBank had a strong fluctuation in personnel with more than 1,800 people.
Some small banks also saw a decrease in the number of employees in the past 9 months, including: Eximbank, NCB, ABBank, SeABank, TPBank. Of which, TPBank had the biggest decrease, more than 800 people.
While large-scale banks have tens of thousands of employees, small-scale banks have an extremely modest number of employees, even less than the number of employees reduced by LPBank.
Specifically, 3 banks with less than 2,000 employees are Saigonbank (1,420 employees), Viet A Bank (1,526 employees) and PG Bank (1,723 employees).
Employee Contribution to Bank Profit
In terms of employee contribution through pre-tax profit, MB Bank employees are showing superiority. With pre-tax profit in the first 9 months of the year of more than 18,800 billion VND, on average each employee brings this bank more than 1.8 billion VND in pre-tax profit in the first 9 months of the year.
In more detail, each employee contributes to the bank over 203 million VND in pre-tax profit each month, while their average income (salary, allowances) is approximately 40 million VND/month, the second highest in the system.
Mr. Hien's employees ranked second in terms of efficiency when the average contribution of employees to SHB's pre-tax profit in the first 9 months of the year was 1.5 billion VND, equivalent to more than 166 million VND/person/month.
Techcombank is the leading bank in terms of employee benefits with an average employee income of up to 45 million VND/month.
Chairman Ho Hung Anh's employees also showed how worthy they were of that treatment when each brought the bank 1.3 billion VND in pre-tax profit in the first 9 months of the year.
Next is Vietcombank, with the average contribution of each employee to pre-tax profit in the first 9 months of the year being 1.26 billion VND, equivalent to 140 million VND/month.
Vietcombank currently ranks third in the entire system in terms of employee salaries, averaging 37.5 million VND/month.
It can be seen that banks that are leading in terms of compensation will receive commensurate contributions from employees.
However, there are exceptions. With ACB of Chairman Tran Hung Huy, this bank is paying the lowest average salary in the system (just over 13 million VND/month), but ACB surprisingly ranks 5th in terms of average employee contribution to pre-tax profit.
On average, each ACB employee brought the bank more than 1.1 billion VND in pre-tax profit in the first 3 quarters of the year, equivalent to more than 124 million VND/month.
Only the 5 banks mentioned above (MB, SHB, Techcombank, Vietcombank, ACB) had an average employee contribution of over 1 billion VND to pre-tax profit in the first 3 quarters of the year.
Some banks are approaching this level such as HDBank (VND 926 million), MSB (VND 855 million) and VPBank (VND 840 million).
Meanwhile, some commercial banks, especially small banks, recorded a very low average employee contribution to profits. Seven banks even recorded pre-tax profits per employee of less than VND200 million in the first nine months of the year.
