He used to hold the positions of Vice President of Ho Chi Minh City Music Association, Vice President of Vietnam Musicians Association, and Editor-in-Chief of Vietnam Music Magazine.

In addition, he also composed many dance and film music. In 2007, he was awarded the 2nd State Prize for Literature and Arts.
In 2022, at the age of 80, musician Ton That Lap had the program Sing for my people, looking back on his more than half a century of composing career, at the Ho Chi Minh City Television Theater.
Mourning the talented musician, musician Truong Quang Luc, author of the song Vam Co Dong, shared that Ton That Lap was one of the leading musicians when he composed to encourage the anti-war movement called Singing for my compatriots.
In 2022, Ho Chi Minh City Television organized the music night Singing for My People dedicated to musician Ton That Lap to look back on his more than half a century of composing career.
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports will organize the program Ton That Lap, Forever Echoing Songs at 7:30 p.m. on August 5 at the Ho Chi Minh City Theater.
According to information from musician Ton That Lap's family, the funeral for the musician will begin at 9am on July 28-29 at the Southern National Funeral Home (5 Pham Ngu Lao, Ward 3, Go Vap District, Ho Chi Minh City); the funeral is scheduled for July 30, after which he will be buried at the Ho Chi Minh City Cemetery.
