Information from Can Tho Central General Hospital said this is the fifth successful kidney transplant at the hospital, but this time the donor is a living relative. The patient is the husband, Mr. LV (38 years old, from Vinh Long province) and the kidney donor is the patient's wife.

Previously, in March 2024, the patient felt tired and had difficulty breathing, so he was hospitalized at Can Tho Central General Hospital. The doctor diagnosed the patient with end-stage chronic kidney failure, and prescribed emergency dialysis, and the patient subsequently had to undergo regular dialysis at the hospital.

With the desire to have a kidney transplant and return to normal life, the patient and his wife registered for a kidney transplant at the hospital.

After completing all professional and legal procedures, it was found that the kidney donor and recipient were compatible; the transplant pair was consulted with experts at Cho Ray Hospital and the transplant was performed in early December 2024.

After the transplant, the health of both the recipient and the donor is now stable. The transplant recipient's paraclinical indicators have progressed favorably, and kidney function has almost returned to normal. Both husband and wife were discharged from the hospital and were scheduled for regular follow-up visits.

According to information from the leaders of Can Tho Central General Hospital, after about 7 months of receiving kidney transplant technique transfer from experts at Cho Ray Hospital, the hospital has so far successfully performed 5 consecutive kidney transplant surgeries.

There were 3 cases of the same bloodline and 2 cases of different bloodlines (wives donated kidneys to their husbands). All transplanted couples recovered well and almost returned to normal life.

In the near future, the hospital is also preparing legal and professional documents to prepare for kidney transplants for the next 8 pairs. The most recent transplant will be conducted this December.

With the success of kidney transplants, after receiving technical transfer from experts at Cho Ray Hospital, the team at Can Tho Central General Hospital will perform the procedure independently and routinely at the hospital.
