On the afternoon of October 23, at Dongrak Hall (Korea), Associate Professor, Dr. Ngo Thi Phuong Lan - President of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City) was awarded the title of Honorary Citizen of Gyeongsangbuk Province by Governor Lee Cheol Woo on the occasion of "Gyeongsangbuk Province Citizens' Day".

This title honors the great and practical contributions in spreading the spiritual values of Saemaul Undong of Korea to rural Vietnam. At the same time, it affirms the connecting role of individuals in cultivating the strong friendship between the two countries.
Associate Professor, Dr. Ngo Thi Phuong Lan is the 5th foreigner, the first Vietnamese and the first Southeast Asian woman to receive this title from the province.
Associate Professor, Dr. Ngo Thi Phuong Lan is known as the founder of the Saemaul Undong Rural Development Center located at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City.

This is a research and application center with the function of developing and organizing the implementation of research programs, applied projects and training and vocational training programs in the field of rural development.
At the same time, it provides consulting services to improve product quality and create added value for products. Especially consulting on building and implementing cultural tourism villages, new rural programs, and One Commune One Product (OCOP) programs. This is also a public unit that effectively connects with state management agencies, businesses and local organizations in implementing projects.
Ms. Ngo Thi Phuong Lan was born in 1974, from Can Duoc district, Long An province, and achieved the Associate Professor standard in 2017.
Ms. Phuong Lan successfully defended her doctoral thesis in history, majoring in ethnology with the topic "Risk reduction behavior and social capital utilization of Vietnamese farmers in the Mekong Delta during the transition from rice cultivation to shrimp farming" in 2011 at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Ho Chi Minh City.
In 2000-2002, Ms. Ngo Thi Phuong Lan studied for a master's degree in Cultural and Social Anthropology at the Faculty of Anthropology (University of Toronto, Canada). From 2002 to 2013, she worked at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Ho Chi Minh City, holding the following positions: Lecturer and international cooperation assistant at the Faculty of Oriental Studies, lecturer of the Faculty of Anthropology, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Ho Chi Minh City (2002-2008), Deputy Head of the Faculty of Anthropology, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Ho Chi Minh City (2008-2013).
Since January 2013, she was appointed as Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Ho Chi Minh City. Since 2018, Associate Professor, Dr. Ngo Thi Phuong Lan has held the position of Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Ho Chi Minh City until now.
