TPO - The Ministry of Transport will expand the scope of the pilot use of sea sand to build roadbeds at the Hau Giang - Ca Mau expressway component project.

On June 28, the Ministry of Transport (MOT) released information about the pilot expansion of the use of sea sand for roadbed construction in the Hau Giang - Ca Mau section project.

Accordingly, on June 29, the contractor will organize the exploitation of sea sand, and is expected to conduct a pilot construction of roadbed embankment at the construction site on July 1. The scope of the pilot expansion construction is selected on the main route and the connecting route of the Hau Giang - Ca Mau project.

On the main route, the pilot is from Km81+000 to the end of the main route (Km126+223), in Hong Dan district, Bac Lieu province; Vinh Thuan district, Kien Giang province and Thoi Binh district, Ca Mau province.

Pilot project on the section connecting Ca Mau from Km6+522 to Km16+510, in the areas of Thoi Binh, Tran Van Thoi and Cai Nuoc districts, Ca Mau province.

According to the Ministry of Transport, the Mekong Delta region is constructing expressway projects such as: Can Tho - Hau Giang, Hau Giang - Ca Mau component projects of the North - South Expressway Project; Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang Project; An Huu - Cao Lanh Project and a number of other key projects.

The total demand for sand filling materials is about 50 million m3. Currently, localities have identified about 37 million m3 of river sand. However, the source of river sand and exploitation capacity still cannot meet the demand and construction progress of projects.

Implementing the Prime Minister's direction, the Ministry of Transport has closely coordinated with ministries, experts, scientists... to deploy a pilot construction on the restored section of Provincial Road 978 (Bac Lieu) of the Hau Giang - Ca Mau Expressway.

The results show that the physical and mechanical indicators meet the standards for roadbed construction materials; the construction work of sea sand is carried out similarly to river sand. Up to now, there has been no sign of increased salinity in the environment around the pilot section, which is sufficient to expand the pilot using sea sand instead of river sand.

On June 21, the People's Committee of Soc Trang province issued a certificate confirming the area, capacity, volume, and method of sand exploitation for the construction of the Eastern North-South Expressway Project.

On June 28, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment decided to hand over the right to use the sea area of Soc Trang province to the construction unit to exploit sea sand for highway construction.

In order for the construction of sea sand to be smooth and not affect the environment and people's lives in the pilot area, the Ministry of Transport has issued a document requesting: the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Ministry of Science and Technology, and the Ministry of Construction to pay attention and provide timely guidance for the Ministry of Transport; the investor to ensure the quality and progress of the project, and comply with regulations.

The Ministry of Transport also requested the People's Committees of Bac Lieu, Kien Giang and Ca Mau provinces to direct the provincial authorities and the People's Committees of the localities where the project passes through to coordinate with the investor in inspecting, supervising and monitoring the process of organizing and implementing the pilot expansion on the project...
