Hiep An Commune, Duc Trong District is considered one of the communes with the largest Tet flower growing area in Lam Dong Province. In the years before the COVID-19 pandemic, the total area of gladiolus flowers that people planted for Tet ranged from 200 to 300 hectares (including the area of flowers that people rented land to grow elsewhere).
According to calculations, for every 1,000 m2 of gladiolus, the investment cost is about 20 million VND, the estimated yield is 15,000 - 16,000 branches/sao (1,000 m2). During the Tet flower season, if the price of flowers sold in the garden fluctuates from 30,000 - 45,000 VND/bunch of 10 branches, the gardener can earn a profit of 40 - 50 million VND/sao (1,000 m2).
The Tet flower harvest will start from mid-December every year and peak after December 23, gardeners will cut flowers and ship them to the market in Hanoi, the Central provinces and Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai, Nha Trang...
According to the People's Committee of Hiep An commune, to serve the Lunar New Year flower season of Giap Thin 2024 this year, gardeners in the area have planted more than 100 hectares of various types of gladiolus.
The flower area planted by people is spread evenly across the commune with main varieties such as French red, regular red, orange-yellow, yellow... In which some villages have large areas such as K'Long A, K'Long B and K'Long C villages.
According to the People's Committee of Hiep An commune, the weather this year is quite favorable, so the area of flowers planted has increased compared to the Tet flower crop in 2021 and 2022 (due to the impact of the epidemic, flowers could not be consumed, so only a few dozen hectares of gladiolus were planted).
Not to mention the area of land that people in the commune rent to grow gladiolus for Tet in some neighboring areas, which is being specifically counted by the local authorities.
