Attending the Conference, the Vietnamese delegation was led by Mr. Vo Tuan Nhan - Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, Chairman of ASOEN Vietnam. The delegation members included units under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (Department of International Cooperation, Department of Environment, Department of Environmental Pollution Control and Center for Natural Resources and Environment Communication) and representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
The 17th ASEAN Environment Ministers Meeting is an important occasion for ASEAN member countries to come up with important solutions and directions so that ASOEN activities become more practical and effective; contributing to achieving the goal of environmental sustainability within the framework of the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community Blueprint and the ASEAN Community Vision 2025, while achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.
Speaking at the AMME 17 Conference, Deputy Minister Vo Tuan Nhan emphasized that this is the first time in 4 years that we have directly attended the AMME Conference, which has reminded us of the serious impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic that we have all experienced, and the lessons learned in overcoming this difficult time: only with joint efforts and strong solidarity can we rise from the fight against the pandemic. However, in the recovery process, we cannot forget the "double crisis" that the ASEAN region and the world are facing, which is climate change, environmental pollution and biodiversity loss.
The Deputy Minister said: it is necessary to strengthen regional solidarity and take action to build a strong ASEAN community in the face of challenges such as the “twin crisis”; equitable and inclusive transition must be a top priority in the process towards the goal of net zero emissions, energy transition and plastic waste management to create momentum for a greener ASEAN; promote cooperation with partners to mobilize institutional, technical and financial support to build a sustainable and resilient ASEAN community.
“ Recognizing the importance of the development and prosperity of the community, Vietnam is committed to working with ASEAN and development partners to contribute to global efforts and actively participate in the common goals of the community. We believe that if we promote cooperation between ASEAN and partners on environment and climate change, we will contribute to the foundation of a sustainable and climate-resilient ASEAN Community ,” the Deputy Minister emphasized.
