Affirming the "class" of an international festival
Chico Freeman is an American modern jazz tenor saxophonist whose prolific musical career spans five decades. Born in Chicago, Freeman grew up in a musical family. His father, Von Freeman, was a renowned tenor saxophonist. Freeman began playing the saxophone at a young age and quickly showed musical talent.
The program will take place from April 27 to May 1 at 2 locations in Nha Trang city (Khanh Hoa).
Since the 1970s, he has released a series of critically acclaimed albums, including "Morning Prayer" (1976), "Kings of Mali" (1977), "No Time Left" (1979)... demonstrating his creativity and technical virtuosity. Freeman has achieved great success worldwide: performing at prestigious concert halls and music festivals around the world, releasing more than 30 albums, receiving many prestigious awards.
Chico Freeman has collaborated with many other legendary jazz artists such as Ella Fitzgerald, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, and McCoy Tyner. In addition to his solo career, Freeman has been a member of many famous jazz groups, including: The Leaders, Brainstorm, and Guataca. Today, Chico Freeman is considered one of the most important Jazz saxophonists of his generation, having contributed to the development of the genre. He experimented with new techniques and had the ability to combine different musical styles and musical elements from many cultures, creating unique and innovative Jazz works. His music has inspired generations of Jazz artists and continues to be loved by fans around the world.
Along with Chico Freeman, the 1st International Jazz Festival - Nha Trang 2024 also brings together famous international artists and bands from Korea, the US, and Singapore, promising to make Vietnam a destination for Jazz music "fans" in the region and the world.

Promoting tourism through the brand of the City of Music
Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ta Quang Dong said that Jazz music is gradually becoming popular in Vietnam, many Jazz bands have reached regional and international levels. That is why the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism assigned the Hanoi Opera House to preside, the Department of Performing Arts, the Department of International Cooperation to coordinate with the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Khanh Hoa province to organize. The 1st International Jazz Festival - Nha Trang 2024.
The program will take place from April 27 to May 1 at two locations in Nha Trang City (Khanh Hoa), 2.4 Square and Thanh Nien Stadium. The shows will have different themes such as: The opening program will take place on the evening of April 27 with the theme "The spotlight of Jazz"; "Living the Legend" (April 28); "The Latin Night" (the evening of April 29); "The Collection" (April 30); the closing program Jazz Flows (May 1) and will be open to visitors and residents for free.
Deputy Minister Ta Quang Dong shared about the program at the recent press conference.
Deputy Minister Ta Quang Dong emphasized that inviting famous international artists to perform in Vietnam is also a way for Vietnamese and international artists to interact and exchange, and learn more experiences. Vietnamese audiences can also get acquainted with the development of international Jazz music. This will be a playground for international and Vietnamese artists to immerse themselves in music. Therefore, foreign artists must also find songs suitable for Vietnamese audiences to perform at the program.
Music is a part of life and the common language of humanity, the shortest way for people to get closer together. Therefore, according to Deputy Minister Ta Quang Dong, with the efforts of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the consensus of the People's Committee of Khanh Hoa province, the Organizing Committee brought the 1st International Jazz Festival to Nha Trang with the hope that this international music "party" will contribute to promoting tourism, introducing more about the lands, natural beauty, culture, and people of Vietnam to international friends through music; creating new tourism products, attracting tourists to Khanh Hoa, contributing to the overall economic development goal of Khanh Hoa province.
Musician Hoang Anh Minh, the program's music director, said: The music activities at the festival aim to conquer the mass audience. The sound system is mobilized to ensure quality service for thousands of people, while meeting the high standards required by foreign artists. The organizers shared that there will be plans to ensure safety for a music event that attracts a very large audience.
Mr. Nguyen Van Nhuan, Director of Khanh Hoa Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said that with the participation of leading artists from all over the world, the 1st International Jazz Festival - Nha Trang 2024 will bring a series of diverse performances. Visitors will be immersed in the vibrant melodies and colorful cultural space of Nha Trang sea. On this occasion, the province also organized many cultural and tourism promotion activities to attract visitors to the beautiful land of Khanh Hoa during the April 30 - May 1 holidays./.
