Continuing activities within the framework of the G7 Summit taking place in Hiroshima (Japan), on the afternoon of May 20, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with President of the European Council Charles Michel.

The two sides expressed satisfaction with the positive steps forward in the Vietnam - European Union (EU) relationship towards increasing depth and substance.

Affirming that the EU is a leading important partner in Vietnam's foreign policy, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh suggested that the two sides promote delegation exchanges at all levels, especially high-level ones, and maintain and promote the effectiveness of cooperation and dialogue mechanisms within the framework of the Vietnam-EU Comprehensive Partnership and Cooperation Framework Agreement.

The Prime Minister asked the President of the European Council to urge the parliaments of member countries to soon ratify the Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA), creating a breakthrough in investment cooperation between the two sides.

At the same time, it is recommended that the European Council speak out so that the European Commission can soon remove the IUU yellow card on Vietnam's seafood exports, as well as continue to support Vietnam in transforming into a modern and sustainable fisheries development model.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh hopes that the EU and its member countries will continue to support Vietnam in attracting resources to implement the Declaration on the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP), with priority given to finance, technology, capacity building in the green transition process, renewable energy development and supporting industries.

Sharing with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, the President of the European Council expressed his delight at the strong and extensive developments in Vietnam - EU relations in many areas, especially high-level exchanges and contacts, economic - trade and investment cooperation.

President Charles Michael highly appreciated Vietnam's efforts in preventing and combating corruption. Regarding the "yellow card" issue for Vietnamese seafood, the EU acknowledged the progress that both sides have made in dealing with this issue.

Mr. Charles Michea also affirmed that the EU strongly supports Vietnam in green transformation and implementation of the JETP agreement, hoping that Vietnam will continue to support the EU in strengthening relations with ASEAN.
