Aiming to ensure absolute safety for participating forces, delegates and people on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day September 2, Hanoi has proactively and synchronously deployed plans to prevent infectious diseases and environmental sanitation, as well as ensuring adequate human resources, medicine and emergency equipment.

According to Dr. Nguyen Dinh Hung, Deputy Director in charge of the Hanoi Department of Health, to be ready to serve the celebration, the Hanoi Center for Disease Control (CDC) was assigned to coordinate with the Department of Disease Prevention and Control (Ministry of Health), the Ministry of National Defense, the Ministry of Public Security and related units, to strengthen environmental sanitation, epidemiological surveillance, early detection of cases, timely handling, and to prevent any outbreaks of disease before, during and after the celebration.
“We proactively check and monitor the quality of water sources at factories, water supply stations, hotels, restaurants, as well as the accommodation of delegates. In particular, the quality of drinking water for the event is strictly monitored, ensuring chemical, physical and microbiological indicators according to safety regulations,” emphasized Dr. Nguyen Dinh Hung.
At the same time, Hanoi CDC has stepped up infectious disease surveillance activities in the community, especially for high-risk diseases such as dengue fever, hand, foot and mouth disease, seasonal flu and emerging infectious diseases.
Last week, Hanoi recorded 145 cases of dengue fever in 59 wards and communes, an increase from the previous week. The city discovered 6 new outbreaks, bringing the total number of active outbreaks to 12.
According to the Hanoi CDC, the number of cases is on the rise, with many patients appearing in some outbreaks and the developments becoming more complicated. Monitoring results at outbreaks show that the insect index is at a high risk level, and the number of cases is forecast to continue to increase in an annual cycle.
In addition, 64 new cases of hand, foot and mouth disease and one community outbreak were also recorded during the week. According to the Hanoi CDC, the complicated weather conditions at the end of August and the beginning of September and the increase in the number of people and tourists from other provinces coming to the capital could create favorable conditions for the disease to spread.
Faced with that situation, Hanoi CDC has closely coordinated with relevant units to strengthen surveillance to detect cases early, thereby organizing investigations, isolating and thoroughly handling outbreaks, preventing the spread of the disease, especially in areas where parades, marches and major cultural activities are held during the holiday.
At ward and commune health stations, environmental sanitation and epidemic prevention plans are being seriously implemented, focusing on areas where commemorations are being held. Patient monitoring in the community is also being stepped up, through software systems, decentralized medical facilities and local medical networks. Suspected cases of dengue fever and hand, foot and mouth disease will be detected, treated and epidemiologically investigated promptly.
At the same time, Chikungunya disease prevention is also integrated into the dengue fever prevention campaign, through mosquito larvae eradication and spraying of chemicals to kill adult mosquitoes in high-risk areas. The goal is to ensure the safety of people participating in activities during the holiday.
Regarding medical emergency work, the Hanoi Health Department has fully prepared its forces, ready to respond to all situations. Specifically, 346 medical staff and 37 ambulances have been mobilized, divided into 88 emergency teams, of which 37 teams are attached to ambulances. This number does not include teams on duty at major emergency centers such as Xanh Pon General Hospital, Hanoi Heart Hospital and other medical facilities in the area.
Each hospital under the Hanoi Department of Health is also required to arrange at least one mobile emergency team, with 5 to 10 beds ready to serve in case of unexpected medical situations. At the same time, the emergency teams are fully equipped with necessary means, medicines and medical equipment, ready to participate in the activities at the assigned locations.
Hanoi 115 Emergency Center is responsible for preparing emergency transportation, especially in case of suspected infectious disease, ensuring safe and effective transportation process.
Dr. Nguyen Dinh Hung affirmed that the Hanoi Department of Health will ensure adequate personnel, equipment, vehicles, medicines, and medical supplies to promptly meet the needs of medical examination, treatment, and emergency care for forces participating in serving the ceremony, delegates, and the masses.
Along with that, people are advised to raise awareness of personal disease prevention such as maintaining hygiene, using clean water, preventing mosquito bites, going to medical facilities when there are unusual signs... to join hands to maintain the achievements of disease prevention and control, contributing to organizing a safe and complete National Day holiday.
