Record from Washington DC: An unprecedented election

This year's race for the White House has become an unprecedented US presidential election because of the characteristics of the two candidates.
Vice President Kamala Harris became the fourth person in American history to run for president for one of the two major parties. She is also the second woman, after Hillary Clinton, to officially represent one of the two parties.

Ms. Harris is the first black female candidate to run for president of the United States. Not only that, before officially running for office, Ms. Harris was also the highest -ranking woman in American history when she held the position of Vice President of the United States. Candidate Harris's achievements are also recognized as the first female district attorney of San Francisco (California), then the first female attorney general of California.
The White House is set to change hands early next year.

On the opposite side of Ms. Harris, Mr. Donald Trump also became a US presidential candidate with many rare characteristics. In US history, Mr. Trump is the third former president to run for re-election as the owner of the White House. Before Mr. Trump, there were Mr. Grover Cleveland and Mr. Theodore Roosevelt. Of these two, only Mr. Cleveland won when he ran for re-election as a former President, becoming the only one to date to serve two non-consecutive terms as US President. Therefore, in the 2024 election, if Mr. Donald Trump wins, he will become the second former US President, and also the first former US President of the Republican Party, to return to the White House. However, at that time, Mr. Trump also has some not-so-positive "first" characteristics. That is: the first impeached president to be re-elected, the first convicted criminal to be elected as US President.
