Gareth Southgate wants England players to shine like Jude Bellingham

Gareth Southgate believes that England's players need to take turns to shine if they want to win EURO 2024. That's how Jude Bellingham brought victory to the "Three Lions" in the opening match against Serbia. The Real Madrid midfielder made a strong impression when scoring and was also the best player of the match.

However, it was a match to forget for Harry Kane - the captain of the "Three Lions". Other stars such as Phil Foden or Trent Alexander-Arnold also did not leave much of an impression. However, Southgate still has no doubts about his students and believes that they will play an important role in Germany.

"Not every player can be the main character in every game. It's important that different people come in at different moments, like Jude Bellingham did.

When I look back at our history of big games, there's always been a different match-winner, a player who will be in the headlines and that will happen if we win a tournament," Southgate said.

Kane only touched the ball twice in the first half and then had his header blocked by Serbia goalkeeper Predrag Rajkovic late on. But Southgate praised Kane's performance and admitted the striker was being restricted in space.

"I thought in the second half Harry Kane had a great time on the ball, the number of duels he won and his movement was impressive. There wasn't much space up front for everyone to be involved in every moment.

In the first half, Bukayo Saka was clearly the standout, Jude Bellingham as well. Trent Alexander-Arnold and Phil Foden had their moments. So Harry Kane didn't get much of the ball but in the second half, his performance was absolutely crucial for us to win the game."

At 11:00 p.m. on June 20 (Vietnam time), England will face Denmark in the second match of the group stage. A victory will be extremely important for Southgate and his students to strengthen the fans' confidence.
