Many requirements are quite loose and general.

As a grader for many years, I found that the answers to the 2023 high school graduation exam in literature have many simple, general requirements and a fairly loose scoring scale.

For example, questions 1 and 2 of the reading comprehension section are two recognition questions. Candidates only need to identify them to get 1.5 points, exceeding the 0.5 threshold for failure (a failure score of 1.0 or lower).

In question 3 (state the effect of the comparison), the candidate is not required to point out where the comparison is in the text, but only needs to state the effect to get full marks.

In the literary argument question (5.0 points, writing section), according to the answer, candidates only need to stick to the excerpt to explain the content, comment a little on the beliefs and aspirations of poor farmers during the 1945 famine to get from 1.5 to 1.75 points for the content section.

The second part of the requirement of this part ("from there, comment on the writer Kim Lan's view of life expressed through the excerpt") is also quite loose, because the students' general statements according to the theme of the short story "The Beggar's Wife" are all correct (while the question is limited to the excerpt). Meanwhile, the comments part of this requirement is also too concise: truthful and profound.

Experience shows that the more specific and detailed the answer is, the easier it is to accurately evaluate the candidate's work. In cases where the answer is too open, it is necessary to have detailed marking instructions, and to anticipate the actual situations of the student's work in order to reach a consensus. Only then can we hope that the marking process will have less deviation in scores.

In what situations will candidates lose points?

From the above analysis, candidates' answers falling into the following cases will lose points. For question 1 of the reading comprehension section, candidates must answer in a definite poetic form, not choosing ambiguously or haphazardly (2 or more options).

Question 2 of the reading comprehension section asks you to identify words and images. There are many words and images in this poem (according to the answer, there are 6 pieces of text). Many candidates have the habit of answering carelessly and lacking text. And this will not get the full 0.75 points.

Question 3 on reading comprehension (effect of comparison) is the question with the highest score (1 point). The answer has 2 points, including effect on content and effect on form (art), each point is worth 0.5 points. After many years of grading, I have noticed that few candidates get full marks for this question because most of them speak generally, their ideas are not complete and clear.

The argument development part of the short paragraph writing question has a score of 1 (out of 2 points). According to the answer, candidates must state the correct topic clearly (according to 3 suggested ideas) to get 1 point.

According to observations, most candidates lost points in this section because they only stated 1 or 2 ideas. Candidates wrote long but general sentences, so they only received points for structure (0.25 points) and expression (0.25 points). Most of the papers scored between 1 and 1.25 points.
