Ancient monastery with European architecture in Ninh Binh
About 100 km from Hai Duong and about 35 km from Ninh Binh center, Chau Son Holy Mother Monastery (in Phu Son, Nho Quan district) attracts thousands of tourists every year because of its ancient, noble beauty with European-style architecture. The monastery is a place for those who practice contemplation. This place has ancient Gothic architecture with a 0.6 m thick surrounding wall, 1.2 m thick columns, creating coolness in summer, warmth in winter. The entire house in the monastery is built with unpainted red bricks, creating a classic background covered with moss over the years. Inside, the church is dedicated to Jesus Christ and is a place for daily prayer. The 21-meter-high white dome in the main church is the most massive and magnificent architectural work in the monastery. A corner of the hallway On both sides of the church corridor are elaborately carved columns. Next to them are paintings of God, creating a sacred atmosphere for the nearly century-old church. Indispensable in churches, the cross is simply designed next to the window. This is the most well-known symbol in the world. According to Christianity, the cross symbolizes suffering and defeat but is also considered a symbol of victory and salvation. In addition to the church, the Fatima prayer garden, also known as the “fairy garden”, is also a highlight of the monastery. The centerpiece of the garden is Our Lady of Fatima. When entering the garden, visitors will see round, white marble stones, symbolizing the legend of the Dragon and Fairy's descendants (or the story of a hundred eggs hatching a hundred children). Right in the middle of the Fatima prayer garden, an ancient well is still preserved, Jacob's Well or also known as the Gray Well of Repentance. To get down to this place, you have to go through a tunnel built entirely of laterite. On weekdays, the monastery limits visitors. On occasions when there is a mass at the beginning of the month, the church will be open for everyone to visit after the prayer time: morning 8-10:30, afternoon 14:30-16:30, except during Lent (around March) and the retreat around the beginning of August.MANH DAT
