Hanoi's 'specialties' double in price, but customers still go out of their way to buy them

The daisy flower season in Nhat Tan (Hanoi) suffered heavy damage due to super typhoon Yagi. Some gardens with few remaining flowers were harvested by people at double the price of last year.

According to a survey by VTC News reporters, Nhat Tan daisies are being sold on the market for 150,000-180,000 VND/bunch, much more expensive than daisies grown in other regions, which are priced from 120,000-150,000 VND/bunch. Sellers said that Nhat Tan daisies often have larger buds, thicker petals, and are whiter and more beautiful than daisies grown in other regions.

In addition to selling flowers, many people also shape bouquets of daisies into trays, flower baskets, and flower stands for customers to rent to take photos, for a few tens of thousands of dong per rental.

Northwestern plum branches arrive in Hanoi early, priced at 150,000 VND/bunch, popular

Although there are still more than 2 months to go until Lunar New Year, flowers typical of Tet such as peach blossoms and plum blossoms have begun to appear in Hanoi. Tien Phong newspaper reported that the appearance of peach and plum branches on the streets this season is not only a highlight but also attracts many flower-loving customers to shop.

Mr. Hung - a trader at Quang An flower market - said that plum blossoms are just starting the season, and the quantity is small. The early plum branches are large, the flower buds are plump, and the price is quite reasonable compared to the time before Tet. However, compared to last year, the price is somewhat higher due to the impact of the recent floods, and the number of beautiful branches has also decreased significantly. Currently, each bunch of plum blossoms of about 5-6 branches is priced at 150,000 VND.

According to many traders, the trend of playing with plum and peach blossoms will increase during Tet, especially in the context of consumers increasingly favoring products with traditional values and closeness to nature. This year, plum and peach branches from the Northwest are expected to be quite popular because Nhat Tan peach trees have just suffered great damage due to storm No. 3.

Durian is in season in the whole world, only Vietnam has it, the price is sky high.

Durian exports in just one month brought in about 16,850 billion VND. Notably, the "king of fruits" is entering the season that only Vietnam has, so the price is skyrocketing.

In recent days, durian prices in growing areas have increased sharply due to supply shortages, while demand remains high. Mr. Nguyen Nhat in Xuan Dinh commune (Xuan Loc, Dong Nai), said that the price of Thai durian in the Southeast region has approached VND200,000/kg for grade 1 goods, Ri6 durian is being purchased at the warehouse for VND150,000/kg.

Regarding the reason for the sharp increase in durian prices, Mr. Huynh Tan Loc, Director of Ngu Hiep Durian Cooperative (Tien Giang), said that this year the weather was not favorable for this crop. Therefore, although there were many durian flowers, the fruit set rate was low, leading to a significant decrease in output in the off-season compared to the same period last year.

“In the West, there are currently hundreds of durian warehouses. The scarcity of durian means traders are searching all over the gardens, pushing up the price of durian,” said Mr. Loc.

In particular, the off-season durian harvest starts from October this year and lasts until February next year, which is also the time when Vietnam almost has a monopoly on fresh whole durian on the world market because other countries have finished their harvest season. Along with that, Vietnamese businesses that sign export orders with Chinese partners are forced to deliver on time, so at this time, they have to buy enough at any price. (See details)

Flight tickets for Tet holiday sell slowly

There are still more than two months until Tet but the airline ticket market is quite quiet, many busy flights every year still have tickets available.

According to VTV, on flights to famous tourist destinations such as Nha Trang, Phu Quoc or Con Dao, where tickets are usually in short supply early in the year, this year there are still many options with flexible schedules. Round-trip tickets cost only 2.6-3.6 million VND, not much different from normal days and even lower than the same period last year.

"Golden" routes such as Ho Chi Minh City - Hanoi, Da Nang, Vinh still have tickets with round-trip prices ranging from 5.7-7.4 million VND (including taxes and fees).
