Pigs died from African swine fever

On November 17, the Gia Lai Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine announced that it had received test results from the Veterinary Department of Region 5 (Department of Animal Health) on samples of sick pigs taken from a household in Mun village (Ia Ly town, Chu Pah district).

Test results showed that the pigs were positive for African swine fever virus.

After receiving the test results, the Gia Lai Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine coordinated with specialized agencies and Ia Ly town to destroy the remaining pigs that had been given to people in the two outbreak areas in Van and Mun villages (Ia Ly town); disinfected a large area of Ia Ly town to destroy pathogens and limit the spread. At the same time, it announced and propagated to people to take measures to safely isolate livestock facilities and prevent the source of infection in livestock herds.

Previously, in early October 2024, the People's Committee of Ia Ly town (Chu Pah district) implemented Project 2, the National Target Program on Sustainable Poverty Reduction, providing 100 breeding pigs with a budget of 300 million VND to 18 poor and near-poor households of ethnic minorities in Van village and Mun village.

After 18 poor and near-poor households adopted the pigs, in just over a month, 52 pigs died, 6 of which are currently suspected to be infected with African swine fever.
