Young man TTL (24 years old, living in Long An) was carrying a fish tank when he accidentally touched the door, causing the fish tank to break. The glass of the fish tank cut his right wrist, causing serious damage to the artery and important tendons.
Mr. L. was taken to Xuyen A Long An General Hospital by his family for emergency treatment. Upon admission, the doctors in the Emergency Department quickly assessed the injury. The patient had a wound on his right wrist, about 3x8 cm in size, with blood spurting out in red streams, revealing many severed tendons. Immediately, the doctors applied pressure to the wound to stop the bleeding, and quickly performed surgery on the patient.
On March 5, Dr. Tran Quang Nhat (Orthopedic Trauma Department, Xuyen A Long An General Hospital) said that during the surgery, doctors determined that the radial artery was completely severed, the flexor carpi radialis tendon, the longus palmaris tendon, the brachioradialis tendon, and the median nerve were partially severed. The surgical team performed blood vessel sutures and restored the severed tendons to ensure motor function and blood circulation to the hand.
After more than 2 hours, the surgery was successfully completed, the patient continued to be monitored and treated at the Orthopedic Trauma Department. Here, doctors carefully controlled the blood circulation through the sutured vessels, while paying close attention to signs of infection at the surgical site. The patient was given intravenous fluids, and used supportive medications such as antibiotics and anticoagulants to prevent possible complications during the recovery process.

After more than a week of treatment, under the dedicated care of the team of doctors and nurses, the wound recovered well and the patient was discharged from the hospital to return home with his family.
Doctor Nhat said that every year the hospital receives many cases of work and daily life accidents, including many cases of serious vascular injuries caused by knives, broken glass or sharp metals... Cases of vascular injuries caused by sharp objects are very dangerous, can cause severe blood loss and threaten life if not treated promptly. In particular, wrist injuries can affect long-term motor function if not treated properly.
"People need to be careful when using sharp objects in daily life and equip themselves with first aid skills to handle emergency situations. When discovering an accident victim, quickly bandage the wound to stop the bleeding and take the victim to the nearest hospital for timely emergency care, minimizing dangerous complications," Dr. Nhat advised.
