UK provides 32 billion VND in aid to help Vietnam respond to Typhoon Yagi

The British government recently announced humanitarian aid worth £1 million (equivalent to VND32 billion) for Vietnam to support the initial phase of responding to the impact of Typhoon Yagi , according to an announcement by the British Embassy in Vietnam on September 14.

Aid will be delivered directly to people through humanitarian partners, providing essential goods, cash assistance and vital services such as health , water and sanitation.

Typhoon Yagi hit Vietnam with sustained winds of 142 mph and heavy rain. As of September 14, 351 people were reported dead or missing, and more than 800 injured after widespread landslides and flooding.

More than 188,000 homes were damaged, destroyed or flooded and significant damage was done to power infrastructure, roads and educational facilities.

According to the embassy, ​​the UK is at the forefront of climate cooperation with Vietnam as one of the lead countries of the Partnership for a Just Energy Transition. In addition to supporting the initial response to the storm, this funding will help strengthen Vietnam’s ongoing resilience to climate change.

Sharing about this, Minister of State for Development, Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Anneliese Dodds affirmed that the British Government stands side by side with the people affected by the devastating impact of Typhoon Yagi in Vietnam.

"We have been working closely with the Vietnamese government and humanitarian partners to identify localities where support is needed to have the most positive and effective impact," said the British Minister of State.

The aid announced today will go directly to local communities, providing essential supplies, cash and vital services such as health, water and sanitation to people in the hardest-hit areas.
