According to Reuters , with London holding the rotating presidency of the UN Security Council, Foreign Minister David Lammy is expected to chair the vote on a draft resolution proposed by Britain and Sierra Leone, which calls for the protection of civilians in Sudan.

“Britain will never let Sudan be forgotten,” Mr Lammy declared, announcing a doubling of aid to £226 million ($285 million), according to the British Foreign Office.

The conflict between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) broke out in April 2023, killing thousands of people and leading to the world's largest displacement crisis.

Mr Lammy criticised Israel's restrictions on humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip and called for an immediate ceasefire and the release of all hostages, the Foreign Office said.

On the conflict in Ukraine, Mr Lammy will declare that Britain “will continue to stand with Kiev”.

The British Foreign Secretary is expected to speak to the press with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha.
