Seven Vietnamese student delegations competed in international and regional Olympiads in mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology and informatics in 2024. The contestants brought home 12 gold medals, 15 silver medals, 10 bronze medals and 1 certificate of merit.

Compared to 2023, the number of medals increased by 7 with 4 gold and 3 silver.

Many Vietnamese students achieved top scores. In particular, practical test scores increased compared to previous years.

According to statistics from the Ministry of Education and Training, the highest achievement belongs to the International Biology Olympiad (IBO) team. 4/4 students of the team won medals, including 3 gold medals and 1 silver medal, bringing Vietnam to 3rd place out of 81 participating countries and territories.

This is also the best achievement of Vietnamese students at IBO since 2019. In particular, many Vietnamese students achieved high results in practical exams which require very high standards in this exam.

The International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) team also achieved a high ranking, ranking among the top four countries and territories in the medal tally, after the United States, Japan and Poland.

Compared to 2023, the Vietnamese IOI team increased by 5 places. 4/4 students won medals including 2 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze.

The teams of the International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) and the International Chemistry Olympiad (ICHO) both maintained their positions in the top group. Specifically, 5/5 members of the IPhO Vietnam team won 2 golds and 3 silvers. Meanwhile, 4 members of the ICHO Vietnam team won 3 golds and 1 silver.

With the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) team, although the ranking was not very good, all 6/6 students brought home prizes for the country with 2 silver medals, 3 bronze medals and 1 certificate of merit.

The results of the regional and international Olympics in 2024 and the past 5 years show the quality of general education and affirm the right direction in discovering, selecting and nurturing excellent students.
