Immediately after the match ended with a 2-0 victory for the Vietnamese team in their away match in the Philippines, VFF decided to give coach Philippe Troussier and his team a bonus of one billion VND.
VFF wants to encourage Van Toan and his teammates to have more strength before the match against strong opponent Iraq on November 21 at My Dinh Stadium.
Not only did he score the opening goal for the Vietnamese team against the Philippines, Van Toan also performed with great effort and speed, making the opposing team's defense struggle to keep up.
That is also the reason Van Toan was chosen as the best player of the match.
Evaluating the victory over the Philippines, Van Toan said: "In the first match, we played on an artificial turf field which was very difficult. However, the Vietnamese team won. I scored and felt very proud.
Over the past 8 months, the Vietnamese team has been getting used to the new philosophy and trying to follow it. This is not a great achievement but it is the first result in the 8-month training process. The Vietnamese team will try to gain points in the upcoming match against Iraq."
Regarding the injury, Van Toan said he has pain in his ribs and needs to go for a check-up after the match.
After the victory over the Philippines, the Vietnamese team did not return home immediately, but decided to stay for a day to recover, then fly back to Hanoi at 11pm on November 17 (expected to land at 1:40am on November 18).
Meanwhile, the Iraqi team will arrive in Hanoi tomorrow afternoon (November 17) and have four training sessions before the match against the Vietnamese team at My Dinh Stadium.
