The 2024-2025 school year is the final year of the first journey of the new general education program.
At the conference to deploy the new school year tasks of Ho Chi Minh City held in mid-August, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Pham Ngoc Thuong suggested: "Ho Chi Minh City is the economic locomotive not only of the country but also of the region, the English proficiency of students must be on par with the region and the world. With the achievements that have been achieved, Ho Chi Minh City must have higher requirements, more demands. How can Ho Chi Minh City have schools using English as a second language the earliest and most in the country?"
In response to the above directive proposal, speaking with Thanh Nien reporter, Dr. Nguyen Van Hieu, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, said that in the 2024-2025 school year, the Department will immediately start drafting criteria for making English the second language in schools. After completing the criteria, the education sector will pilot it in a number of schools, expected to start in the 2025-2026 school year.
In the new school year, Mr. Tran The Cuong, Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, said: Right at the beginning of the school year, the Department of Education and Training coordinated with the Department of Finance to issue documents guiding the collection and expenditure in schools at all levels, so that they are public, transparent, collect correctly and fully, and any unauthorized fees will not be collected. The principal or leader of the educational institution must be responsible to the management unit, and will even be transferred to the investigation agency for handling if violations are discovered or illegal collection occurs in the school.
The Hanoi Department of Education and Training stated that the parents' association is only allowed to collect fees that directly serve the activities of the parents' association, and is not allowed to collect the following 7 fees: protecting school facilities, ensuring school security; supervising students' vehicles; cleaning classrooms and schools; rewarding school administrators, teachers, and staff.
Do not collect from parents to purchase machinery, equipment, and learning materials for schools, classrooms, or for school administrators, teachers, and staff; support management, organization of teaching and learning, and educational activities; repair, upgrade, and build new school facilities.
