General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping begins visit to Vietnam

At noon on April 14, General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping arrived in Hanoi, starting a two-day state visit to Vietnam from April 14-15, 2025.

On the afternoon of April 14, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping arrived in Hanoi, beginning a two-day state visit to Vietnam on April 14-15, at the invitation of General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam To Lam and President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Luong Cuong.

President Luong Cuong went to Noi Bai International Airport to welcome General Secretary and President Xi Jinping and the high-ranking Chinese delegation.

Also welcoming General Secretary and President Xi Jinping and the Chinese delegation at the airport were: Tran Cam Tu, Politburo member, Standing member of the Secretariat; Le Hoai Trung, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Chief of the Party Central Committee Office; Tran Sy Thanh, Party Central Committee member, Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee; Nguyen Minh Vu, Alternate Member of the Party Central Committee, Permanent Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs; Pham Thanh Binh, Vietnamese Ambassador to China.

Accompanying General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping on his State visit to Vietnam were comrades: Cai Qi, member of the Politburo Standing Committee, Secretary of the Secretariat, Chief of the Central Office; Wang Yi, member of the Politburo, Director of the Office of the Central Foreign Affairs Commission, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Wang Xiaohong, Secretary of the Secretariat, State Councilor, Minister of Public Security; Liu Jianchao, member of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Foreign Liaison Committee; Dong Jun, member of the Party Central Committee, Minister of National Defense; Zheng Sanjie, member of the Party Central Committee, Director of the National Development and Reform Commission; Wang Wentao, member of the Party Central Committee, Minister of Commerce; Tang Fangyu, Deputy Director of the Central Policy Research Office; He Wei, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to Vietnam; Sun Weidong, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs; Chieu Huy, Director of the Department of International Development Cooperation.

Welcoming General Secretary and President Xi Jinping and the high-ranking Chinese delegation at Noi Bai International Airport were special drum performances by 200 artists from the Drum Art Troupe, along with welcoming dances by 54 young women in costumes representing Vietnamese ethnic groups.

A large number of Vietnamese people, Chinese people in Vietnam, and officials and staff of the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam held flags of the two countries and banners expressing the traditional friendship between the two countries, warmly welcoming General Secretary and President Xi Jinping and the high-ranking Chinese delegation.

This is the fourth State visit of Comrade Xi Jinping to Vietnam in his capacity as General Secretary and President of China; even more special is that this is the second visit of a Chinese leader to Vietnam in the same term.

The visit takes place in the context of 2025 being a special year, marking the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries (January 18, 1950 - January 18, 2025). This visit contributes to promoting and deepening the framework of the Vietnam - China Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership, the Vietnam - China Community of Shared Future, which has strategic significance, bringing the relationship between the two countries to a new height.

Since the two countries established the framework of the Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership in 2008, especially after the historic mutual visits of the top leaders of the two Parties and two countries in recent years, the bilateral relationship has made strong, comprehensive and remarkable developments in many fields. The two Parties and two countries have always strived to foster bilateral relations, continue to deepen and elevate the Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership, and build a "Vietnam-China Community of Shared Future of Strategic Significance."

The two countries have proposed the “6 more” direction, including: Higher political trust; more substantive defense-security cooperation; deeper substantive cooperation; more solid social foundation; closer multilateral coordination; better control and resolution of disagreements. Both sides assessed that the bilateral relationship is at its deepest, most comprehensive and substantive level ever.

Taking place less than a year after the State visit to China by General Secretary To Lam, this State visit to Vietnam by General Secretary and President Xi Jinping is an important foreign political event of the two Parties and two countries, with strategic significance and long-term impact on the development of Vietnam-China relations in the context of both countries entering a new era, a new era of development. The visit has important significance and symbolism for the relationship between the two countries, thereby continuing to maintain the positive development trend, spreading strongly to all levels, sectors, and people, creating a vibrant, effective, and practical atmosphere of cooperation.

It is expected that during the visit, General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping will have important talks and meetings with General Secretary To Lam, President Luong Cuong, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Chairman of the National Assembly Tran Thanh Man; in-depth discussions on strengthening and deepening bilateral relations, including promoting the tradition of regular high-level exchanges, further consolidating political trust, promoting the effective implementation of high-level common perceptions and signed agreements, expanding and improving the effectiveness and quality of cooperation areas in the direction of "6 more", bringing substantive cooperation into depth, achieving many practical results and new highlights.
