The International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO) is the most prestigious competition for 15-year-old students. The knowledge of the competition is comprehensive, integrating 3 natural science subjects (physics, chemistry, biology). Candidates will take the exam in English with 3 tests: Multiple choice, theory (individual scoring) and practice (team scoring). Therefore, in addition to scientific knowledge and good English proficiency, candidates need to have knowledge of mathematics, the ability to work in groups and many other skills.
In 2024, the 21st International Junior Science Olympiad will be held in Bucharest, the capital of the Republic of Romania from December 2 to 12, 2024, with about 60 countries expected to participate.
Over the years, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training has been entrusted by the Ministry of Education and Training and the Hanoi People's Committee with the task of selecting and establishing a team of students to participate in the IJSO exam and has achieved excellent results, contributing to affirming the quality and prestige of Vietnam's leading education to other countries. Through the times of participating in the exam (from 2007 to 2023), the IJSO Hanoi team, representing Vietnam, has always achieved high results with a total of 77 medals, including 16 Gold Medals.

The Team Selection Exam had 226 students from 14 high schools in Hanoi registered to participate (an increase of 41 students compared to 2023). Based on the results of students taking the exam in all 5 subjects: math, physics, chemistry, biology and English; The Organizing Committee selected and ranked the students participating in the IJSO Team Selection Exam in 2024 with 129 prizes (60%), including: 6 First prizes, 33 Second prizes, 38 Third prizes and 52 Encouragement prizes. In particular, 6 students who won First Prize won the right to join the City's IJSO team to participate in the 2024 IJSO International Junior Science Olympiad in the Republic of Romania.
Congratulating and praising the achievements of 129 students and schools, especially the 6 members of the official Hanoi team participating in the competition, Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training Tran The Cuong shared that IJSO is a useful intellectual playground, encouraging high school students to love natural sciences as well as improve their English. This is also an opportunity for STEM clubs and Science clubs in high schools to create momentum for development, nurture young talents who love science, and explore the unlimited treasure of knowledge.
"The Hanoi Department of Education and Training will support and create the best conditions for team members to practice effectively; thereby achieving high results in the exam," the Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training emphasized.
