According to historical records, in the early 19th century, Mr. and Mrs. Do Cong Tuong from the Central region came to settle in My Tra village. Not only did they reclaim wasteland, grow tangerines, and establish Vuon Quyt market (the predecessor of Cao Lanh market), they were also famous for their virtue and integrity. In gratitude for their merit, the people built a temple to worship them, and later built a shrine and it was recognized as a national historical and cultural relic. In 2014, the project was awarded the golden plaque "Top 100 typical spiritual and cultural tourist attractions" by UNESCO.
Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan, Head of the Worship Committee of the Temple of Mr. and Mrs. Do Cong Tuong, said: "The number of people and tourists attending this year's ceremony increased by more than 30,000 compared to last year, demonstrating the deep affection and respect of the people for their ancestors." This year's death anniversary, in addition to traditional rituals, includes many unique cultural and artistic activities such as art programs, a lantern festival with the theme "Hundred years of origin", and a space to display OCOP products, typical products of 102 communes and wards in the province.
Chairman of Cao Lanh Ward People's Committee Bui Quoc Nam shared: "The death anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Do Cong Tuong is not only an important cultural and spiritual event, but also an occasion to educate about tradition, reminding today's generation of the merits of their ancestors". For Dong Thap people, the death anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Do Cong Tuong has become an indispensable part of their spiritual and cultural life. Through each holiday, the spirit of solidarity, loyalty and the morality of "remembering the source of water" is nurtured, continuing with the development of Cao Lanh homeland.
