VnExpressVnExpress05/11/2023

Ho Chi Minh City Hanoi Highway was diverted for 4 hours so that the contractor could install an 80-meter long pedestrian bridge connecting the Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien metro station to the High-Tech Park, on November 5.

Early this morning, the contractor installed a girder weighing more than 70 tons of a pedestrian bridge at the High-Tech Park connecting Metro Line 1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien). This is the first bridge to be installed among 9 pedestrian bridges connecting the elevated stations of the metro line.

The right branch of the pedestrian bridge connecting the High-Tech Park station is about 80 m long, crossing Hanoi Highway, divided into three spans (32 m, 26 m and 22 m). Each span consists of two girders, with a load capacity of 46-75 tons. The contractor will install the bridge girders after completing the construction of the underlying structures such as bored piles, pillars, etc. It is expected that the installation of the pedestrian bridge girders will be completed on November 6, followed by the installation of the roof, construction of the bridge deck, signs, etc.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hai, engineer in charge of the construction package of Metro No. 1 pedestrian bridge, said that the bridges are built to connect the passenger transfer floors of the elevated stations with residential areas and bus stations along the sides. One side of the bridge crosses the parallel road on the left side of Hanoi Highway (from Saigon Bridge to Suoi Tien).

On the other side, the overpass crosses the highway and the parallel road on the right, allowing passengers to safely enter and exit the station without having to cross the road. In addition to making it easier for passengers to travel, the structure also serves as an emergency exit in case of an accident at the station.

After the pedestrian bridge connecting the High-Tech Park station, in December the contractor will construct the pedestrian bridge girder at Binh Thai station. Several other bridges connecting Phuoc Long, Rach Chiec, and Tan Cang stations are expected to be installed in January and February 2024.

To limit the impact on traffic on Hanoi Highway and Vo Nguyen Giap Street, the contractor will carry out the construction of the girder from midnight to 4am every Friday and Saturday evening. At the same time, the contractor will develop a plan to ensure traffic safety and coordinate with the traffic police to organize traffic flow below to avoid congestion at the gateway.

Metro Line 1 is the first urban railway project in Ho Chi Minh City, with a total investment of more than VND43,700 billion, nearly 20 km long, from Long Binh depot, Thu Duc to Ben Thanh, District 1. In addition to 11 elevated stations, the line also has three underground stations in the city center: Ben Thanh, City Theater and Ba Son. Currently, the project is 95% complete, expected to be completed by the end of this year, and put into commercial operation from July next year.
