Unfinished road construction, potential risk of accidents

Records at the scene showed that the approximately 500m long road was severely degraded, with many sections forming “potholes” and the road surface peeling off. This section of road is dusty in the dry season and muddy in the rainy season.

According to local residents, the project, which started in early 2024, was expected to improve traffic infrastructure, and many households voluntarily donated land and dismantled fences to widen the road. However, after completing some items, the project suddenly stopped.

Mr. Nguyen Duc Thach (residing in Thach Kieu hamlet, Tam Xuan 2 commune) indignantly said: “The contractor only built two drainage ditches a few dozen meters long and then abandoned them. There are sections where rows of sharp iron stakes are exposed right next to the road, which is very dangerous because there are no lights in this area. Recently, a resident fell into the ditch while trying to avoid a car, but fortunately his life was not in danger.”

It is known that the unfinished road above is a rural road solidification project invested by the People's Committee of Tam Xuan 2 Commune. The winning bidder is the joint venture of Quang Nam - Nhat Quang Infrastructure Company, with a total value of nearly 1.9 billion VND, starting construction from January 2024.

However, on May 10, 2024, Director Huynh Hong Danh and Deputy Director Nguyen Tien of Quang Nam Infrastructure Company were temporarily detained by Tam Ky City Police to investigate violations of the law, so the project was forced to stop construction.
