(HTV) - On April 12, the Youth Union's Resistance Tradition Club of the Central Office for Southern Vietnam organized a traditional meeting to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day.

Traditional meeting to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025) with the theme "50 years of pride, forever shining the flame of youth".

Overview of the meeting

Attending the meeting were former President Nguyen Minh Triet; veterans, representatives of 24 Central Offices of the Southern Region; historical witnesses of the Southern Intelligence Department, Saigon commandos, female guerrillas, veteran revolutionary cadres, Heroes of the People's Armed Forces, Heroic Vietnamese Mothers and representatives of leaders of agencies and units in Ho Chi Minh City and Binh Duong province.

Speaking at the meeting, Permanent Deputy Head of the Resistance Tradition Club of the Youth Union of the Central Office for Southern Vietnam, Nguyen Huu Chau, reviewed the tradition from the founding of the Provisional Revolutionary Government of the Republic of South Vietnam to the General Offensive and Uprising in the Spring of 1975, culminating in the historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign.

Mr. Nguyen Huu Chau emotionally said: “The meeting was held during the days when Ho Chi Minh City and the whole country were looking forward to celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and the reunification of the country. No one expected that at the age of 60, 70, even 90, with nearly 400 comrades and teammates from all over the country, they would come to the city named after beloved Uncle Ho, to have this historic reunion today. This is an opportunity for us to remember the heroic time of a generation who devoted their youth, many of whom went to the war zone when they were only 13 or 14 years old, overcoming countless difficulties and hardships, ready to sacrifice in exchange for independence and freedom for the country”.

Over the years, implementing the morality of "When drinking water, remember its source", the Traditional Resistance Club of the Youth Union of the Central Office of the Southern Region has been organizing trips across the country to carry out many meaningful activities such as: Organizing trips to the source; visiting and giving gifts to Vietnamese Heroic Mothers; helping disabled children, orphans, and comrades who are still facing difficulties in life; especially to continue the tradition for the younger generation.

Continuing the tradition for the younger generation

At the meeting, former President Nguyen Minh Triet advised the current generation of union members and youth to continue promoting traditions, preserving revolutionary achievements; showing gratitude to heroic martyrs, heroic Vietnamese mothers, etc.

“We are even more proud because we have predecessors, our fathers, uncles, and seniors who have devoted their entire lives to the revolutionary cause. At today’s meeting, I met my comrades and comrades in the old resistance zone. Some of them are over 100 years old, moving around in wheelchairs, but during the resistance war they were brave and patriotic comrades. I am proud of my comrades and comrades, the youth and union members of the past,” former President Nguyen Minh Triet said emotionally.

On this occasion, the Resistance Tradition Club of the Youth Union of the Central Office of the Southern Region also organized the screening of historical documentaries; presented gifts to honor those who have actively contributed to "carrying on the tradition" for 50 years; commended successful children and presented gifts to members' families in difficult circumstances.
