On July 18, according to news from the Forest Protection Department of Huong Thuy town (Thua Thien Hue), this agency has just received a rare wild animal voluntarily handed over by a local resident.
It is a pig-tailed macaque (scientific name Macaca leonina), in normal health condition. This is an animal listed in the list of endangered, precious and rare forest animals in group IIB as prescribed in Decree No. 84/2021/ND-CP dated September 22, 2021 of the Government.

The pig-tailed macaque was handed over by Mr. Truong Ba Ha (residing in Phu Bai ward, Huong Thuy town). Previously, this pig-tailed macaque had strayed and Mr. Ha had captured and kept it in captivity.
Knowing that this was a rare and endangered wild animal, Mr. Ha proactively contacted the forest rangers to hand it over and release it back into the wild.
After receiving it, Huong Thuy Town Forest Protection Department is taking care of it while completing procedures to release the pig-tailed macaque back into the wild according to the law.
