DNVN - Artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming one of the important factors determining the competitiveness of countries. Building a sovereign AI ecosystem not only helps protect national interests but is also the key to increasing labor productivity, improving automation capabilities and creating real values for the digital economy.
Regarding this field, Mr. Le Hong Viet - CEO of FPT Smart Cloud, when participating in the AI4VN 2024 event, said that AI sovereignty consists of 5 major pillars: Infrastructure, data, technology platform, human resources and business ecosystem. Also within the framework of this event, mentioning the challenges that need to be overcome, Dr. Tran The Trung - Deputy Director of AI Product Block, FPT Smart Cloud, Director of FPT Technology Research Institute commented: AI, especially generative AI, is a technology that requires much larger computing infrastructure capacity than traditional AI and this is a barrier for Vietnamese enterprises when approaching this technology.
FPT has invested in AI research for the past 10 years. Up to now, the Group has developed an ecosystem of AI application solutions for businesses, helping to create breakthroughs in improving work efficiency and employee capacity, optimizing operations and increasing the organization's competitiveness.
This ecosystem was introduced at the AI4VN 2024 event. FPT also showed the Group's determination to be self-reliant in infrastructure, master data, promote AI research and development, and be ready to commit to promoting sovereign AI in Vietnam. For example, last March, this enterprise invested 200 million USD to cooperate with NVIDIA to build an AI Factory.

Mr. Phung Viet Thang, Country Director of Vietnam, Business, Marketing and Communications, Intel Corporation, assessed: The continuous development of AI technology brings Vietnam great opportunities to improve its comprehensive competitiveness.
In application activities, in recent years, many Vietnamese enterprises have begun to apply AI in management and operations to prepare for a future with AI playing a central role. However, in reality, the number of enterprises implementing AI seriously and comprehensively is still modest. The question is, with such a situation, will we achieve the goal as the National Strategy on Research, Development and Application of Artificial Intelligence by 2030 expects that Vietnam will be in the top 4 countries in the ASEAN region, and the top 50 countries in the world in research, development and application of AI.
Therefore, to achieve this goal as well as meet the inevitable trend of the digital economy, promoting AI sovereignty, developing and applying AI in practice is a necessary activity and needs to be promoted. That will be a solid foundation to enhance the competitiveness of the Vietnamese economy, a premise for Vietnamese enterprises to develop steadily in the digital transformation process.
The article is supported by the Plan "Supporting digital transformation for small and medium enterprises in Hanoi for the period 2021 - 2025" issued by the Hanoi People's Committee in Decision No. 3457/QD-UBND dated September 23, 2022.
