Egyptian Environment Minister Yasmine Fouad and her Canadian counterpart Steven Guilbeul will co-chair negotiations on a climate finance implementation mechanism at the upcoming 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28), scheduled to take place in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Six environment ministers from other countries were selected to chair other negotiating groups focusing on climate change mitigation and adaptation at COP28.
As Ministerial Coordinator and Special Envoy of COP27, Ms. Fouad reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to building on the achievements of COP27, which laid the foundation for addressing the consequences of climate change at both the national and global levels. These achievements include the establishment of a fund to compensate vulnerable countries for the damage caused by climate disasters.
